Dana White has dismissed the suggestion that Tom Aspinall is preparing to leave the UFC. The rumor grew after Aspinall’s coach, Stipe Drvis, said during an Instagram broadcast that the heavyweight champion no longer wanted to continue with the promotion. Aspinall publicly denied that interpretation, and White has now given the UFC’s answer: the company expects him to remain on the roster.
White said the UFC and Aspinall are in a good place and that the champion is not going anywhere. He did not announce a return date or name an opponent. The Heavyweight Division Still Has to Wait
Clarity about Aspinall staying does not solve the scheduling problem. The UFC cannot responsibly book a heavyweight title defense until doctors clear the champion and he can complete a full camp. Eye injuries require particular care because visible improvement does not necessarily establish that an athlete is ready to absorb strikes. White’s answer was deliberately conditional: Aspinall returns when he is healthy and prepared.
That leaves contenders without a confirmed championship date. Gane remains tied to the unfinished UFC 321 fight, but the promotion has not announced an immediate second booking. Other heavyweights can strengthen their positions while Aspinall recovers. Choosing the next challenger now would create certainty that the UFC has not actually provided.
The no-contest also complicates the sporting discussion. It did not produce a winner, and it did not give Aspinall the kind of successful defense that could move the division forward. At the same time, an accidental ending should not be treated as proof that either fighter would have won a completed bout. The only firm consequence is that Aspinall left with an injury and the title picture remained unresolved.
