Shara Magomedov Beats Gracie at RAF Moscow

Sharabutdin “Shara Bullet” Magomedov stepped away from the MMA cage and handled a different kind of assignment at RAF Moscow. The UFC middleweight defeated Neiman Gracie 11-3 in their 190-pound freestyle wrestling match, using one major scoring burst to build the margin that carried him to victory.

The pairing was designed around a familiar combat-sports contrast. Magomedov is best known for creative striking, while Gracie built his reputation through Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Freestyle rules removed the submissions and striking that define their usual work, leaving both men to compete through takedowns, exposure and positional scoring.

Magomedov adapted more effectively. His six-point sequence became the decisive passage of the match, giving him control of the scoreboard and forcing Gracie to chase. By the end, the eight-point gap offered a clear result rather than a narrow decision based on criteria.

One scoring burst separated the match

The six-point action mattered because freestyle bouts can change quickly when one athlete turns a scramble into exposure points. Magomedov did not need to dominate every second. He needed to recognize the moment, complete the sequence and avoid giving the same opportunity back to Gracie.

That is a very different challenge from managing distance in an MMA striking exchange. Magomedov normally creates reactions with kicks, feints and unorthodox attacks. In Moscow, he had to generate offense through contact and positional leverage. The final score suggests that he found enough comfort in that environment to prevent Gracie from imposing a grappling rhythm of his own.

Gracie’s surname naturally attracts attention, but this was not a jiu-jitsu contest. He could not pull guard, threaten a choke or use the submission chains associated with his family’s fighting history. The rules rewarded wrestling control, and Magomedov made the better adjustment to that specific scoring system.

The result should also remain in its proper category. An 11-3 freestyle win does not prove that Magomedov would control every MMA grappling exchange, just as Gracie’s submission résumé did not guarantee success under RAF rules. What it shows is that the UFC striker prepared seriously for a crossover match and delivered a decisive performance on the mat.

A useful test outside the Octagon

RAF Moscow placed a number of MMA names alongside elite wrestlers, giving the card an unusual competitive mix. Magomedov’s appearance fit that idea well: a fighter associated with spectacular stand-up offense accepted a format in which none of those weapons could score.

Winning adds a useful layer to the way his athletic skill is viewed. The six-point sequence required timing and control, and the ability to protect the lead afterward required discipline. Those qualities matter in MMA even though the rule set and tactical choices are not identical.

No UFC booking or career change follows automatically from the result. Magomedov remains an MMA fighter who took part in a separate wrestling event. The value of the night is simpler: he tested himself in an unfamiliar competitive setting and left with an eight-point victory over a respected grappler.
