Glendale Readies for Noche UFC Return

Glendale will return to the UFC calendar on September 12, when Noche UFC brings the Octagon back to Desert Diamond Arena. The visit is notable on two timelines: it will be the promotion’s first event in Glendale since 2021 and its first return to Arizona since May 2022. UFC.com identified the event as the start of a newly minted agreement between TKO and the Arizona Sports & Events Alliance, under which UFC, WWE, PBR and Zuffa Boxing events are set to come to Arizona over the next three years.

The fight card is headed by a featherweight matchup between Brazil’s Jean Silva and Arizona’s Jose Miguel Delgado. While the bout supplies the sporting centerpiece, the schedule also gives the host city an unusual role in the event-day plan. Prelims are scheduled to begin at 11am PT, followed by a 2pm PT main card, leaving plenty of time for fight fans to take in all Glendale has to offer. That timing helps explain why the city’s arena district, outdoor spaces, historic neighborhoods and local restaurants are receiving attention alongside the Noche UFC program.

A Glendale event with a clear local timetable

Noche UFC’s return places Glendale in the spotlight before the first bell as well as during the card itself. Desert Diamond Arena sits near the Westgate Entertainment District, an open-air plaza with water features and nearly 30 restaurants and bars within an easy walk of the arena doors. The West Wind Glendale 9 Drive-In, described as the largest drive-in movie theater in the Western United States, opened in 1979 and expanded to nine screens in 1984. Fight-weekend activities named by UFC.com also include sunrise hot-air-balloon rides through Rainbow Riders Hot Air Balloon Co., indoor go-karting at Andretti Indoor Karting & Games, and PopStroke. PopStroke has two 18-hole putting courses designed by Tiger Woods, along with games, a bar and a full-service restaurant. In Historic Downtown Glendale, locally owned restaurants and historic architecture frame a walkable district. Its food choices include Cubanitas Kitchen, Cultura Mexicana, Haus Murphy’s, Cornish Pasty Co, Coyote Oaties and Ceretta Candy Company, where chocolate and caramels have been made on-site for more than 50 years. Murals by local artists throughout the district provide an additional feature for food walks.
