Khaos Williams did not hesitate when the UFC offered him Roberto Soldic. The welterweights are scheduled to meet at UFC 332 on October 3 at Delta Center in Salt Lake City, where Williams will serve as the first Octagon test for one of the most accomplished signings to arrive from outside the promotion.

Soldic brings a 21-4 record and the reputation of a former two-division KSW champion. Williams respects that résumé without treating it as a reason to step aside. His position is simple: the newcomer’s history matters, but it does not decide what happens when they share the cage. That confidence is consistent with a fighter who has built his own reputation by accepting dangerous striking exchanges.

Williams has accepted a high-risk assignment

Williams enters at 16-5 after stopping Nikolay Veretennikov in the first round in May. That victory ended a two-fight losing streak and restored the quality that has defined his best UFC performances: the ability to change a contest with a short, clean burst of power. Nine of his professional wins have come by knockout, and eight of his victories ended in the opening round.

Those numbers explain why he is a meaningful debut opponent. Williams is not being asked to provide a ceremonial welcome. He has tenured UFC experience, genuine finishing power and enough confidence to pressure a newcomer before that fighter becomes comfortable with the pace and space of the Octagon.

At the same time, the matchup carries obvious risk for Williams. Soldic built his name by winning championships in two KSW weight classes and has competed on large stages outside the UFC. His three-fight run with ONE Championship did not produce the uninterrupted momentum many expected, but it did not erase the strength, southpaw offense and finishing threat that made him a coveted free agent.

Soldic will also arrive with a great deal of attention attached to his debut. Williams has said that he understands the hype and views it as part of the opportunity. Beating an established newcomer can do more for his position than defeating a less recognizable opponent, particularly in a welterweight division where a memorable result can quickly create a larger booking.

Power makes the early exchanges especially important

Both men are most dangerous when they can set their feet and punish a mistake. Williams often needs only a small opening to land a compact counter, while Soldic has built much of his reputation on heavy pressure and damaging left-handed attacks. The first fighter to control distance should be able to dictate whether the bout becomes a measured striking match or a rapid exchange.

Williams’ UFC experience may help with the practical details of fight week and cage management, but it does not make the contest safe. Soldic has already handled championship pressure elsewhere and is not entering as a conventional rookie. Conversely, success in KSW or ONE does not automatically answer how he will respond to Williams’ speed and explosive timing.

The booking therefore works as a test in both directions. Soldic gets an immediate chance to prove his reputation translates to the UFC. Williams gets a named opponent whose arrival has attracted attention and whose style should create opportunities for his own best weapon. Neither man needs promotional exaggeration to make the matchup interesting.

There is little value in declaring one résumé superior before they compete under the same conditions. Williams has the deeper UFC sample; Soldic has the championship history. The October bout provides the direct comparison that promotional debates usually lack, with both athletes receiving a result that should clarify their immediate place at welterweight.

Williams is right not to surrender ground to Soldic’s résumé before the fight begins. UFC 332 will determine whether Soldic’s long-awaited arrival starts with a breakthrough or whether Williams turns the newcomer’s spotlight into momentum of his own.
